Sep 24 Ajit Dembla: A kid wrote this essay.. Emotional..

'Oh God, tonight I ask you something very special :
Make me into a television. I want to take its place and live like the TV in my house.
Have my own special place, And have my family around ME.
To be taken seriously when I talk....

I want to be the center of attention and be heard without interruptions or questions.
I want to receive the same special care that the TV receives even when it is not working.
Have the company of my dad when he arrives home from work, even when he is tired.
And I want my mom to want me when she is sad and upset, instead of ignoring me...
And... I want my brothers to fight to be with me...
I want to feel that family just leaves everything aside, every now and then, just to spend some time with me.
And last but not least, ensure that I can make them all happy and entertain them...
Lord I don't ask you for much... I just want to live like a TV.'

Soichiro Honda

Aug 31 Ajit Dembla: Accepting Challenges…

Soichiro Honda was born in Yamahigashi on November 17 1906. His father, Gihei Honda, was a local blacksmith. His mother, Mika, was a weaver. The family was not wealthy, but Gihei Honda instilled into his children the ethic of hard work, and a love of mechanical things. Honda spent his early childhood helping his father, a blacksmith, with his bicycle repair business. Soichiro soon learned how to whet the blades of farm machinery, and how to make his own toys.

Honda's subsequent spirit of adventure and determination to explore the development of new technology had its roots in his childhood.

In 1938, while still in school, Soichiro Honda took everything he owned and invested it in a little workshop where he started to develop his idea of a piston ring. He wanted to sell his idea to Toyota Corporation, but was turned down by Toyota. He had to go back to school for two years as a result of his failure. With sheer persistence, after the two years Toyota gave him the contract.

As the Japanese government was preparing for war, he was not given the concrete needed to build his factory. Because of this he created his own form of concrete and managed to construct his factory. Unfortunately, his factory was burned down twice and a major portion of it was destroyed. Then, a major earthquake destroyed his factory and he finally decided to sell off his piston ring factory to Toyota. After this, he tried a few other business ventures but did not have any success.

In 1947, after the war, there was a gasoline shortage in Japan. He could not use his car, so he thought of an idea to attach a small motor to his bicycle. His neighbours were impressed with his motorized bicycle, and asked him to make one for them. He finally ran out of motors, and decided to start a factory to build his own motors.

In order to raise funds for his factory, he wrote to 18,000 bicycle owners and received 5,000 replies to provide him with the necessary capital. When the motorized bicycles were manufactured, the sales were not as expected because the motorized bicycles were too big and bulky. Later, he came up with the idea to improve the motorized bicycle, and finally introduced to the world the "Honda Cub".

Today, Honda Corporation employs over 100,000 people in the USA and Japan, and is one of the world's largest automobile companies. Honda succeeded because one man made a truly committed decision, acted upon it, and made adjustments on a continuous basis. Failure was simply not considered a possibility.

Recycle Numbers in Plastic Bottles

Did you ever drink from a plastic bottle and see a triangle symbol on the bottom with a number inside?

Do you know what the number stands for?
Did you guess that it's just for recycling?
Then you are wrong!!!!!!

The Number tells you the Chemical make up of the plastic...
1. Polythylene terephalate (PETE)
2. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
3. Unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (UPVC)
4. Low density Polyethylene (LDPE)
5. Polypropylene (PP)
6. Polystyrene (PS) or expandable polystyrene (EPS)
7. Polycarbonate (PC)

What you aren't told is that many of the plastics used are toxic and the chemicals used to create plastic can leach out of the plastic and into the food / drink.

The WORST ONES are Nos: 1, 3 & 6.
http://useful-info24.blogspot.in/2013/12/check-recycling-number-on-bottom-of-all.html says even 7 is not good :(
Do NOT use bottles with these numbers is stated at the bottom of the bottle !!!!

AVOID re-using plastic bottles RIGHT AWAY!!!
Always insist on using Polycarbonate bottles for your daily needs.

Only the picture is something that is my creation.
Here is another good blog about the numbers:

My Friend - Reginald Charles Russell

Today I feel like writing about RR, my colleague, my friend - Reginald Charles Russell (Reg Russell).
He is truly an amazing person. The things I like most about him are his honesty and his straight forward personality. He would not criticize you unless you really made some stupid or serious mistake. Very good in providing facts about anything you ask. Be it work or something related to some incident, he will give exactly what he knows for sure. No guess talks.

He will provide you wonderful solutions to some problems; and would do it whole hearted. Half-hearted things he would usually not do. Thus, if he is not sure he can give you some time to work with you, he would say it to you. He would not hang you around and would not keep you waiting for a long time. He is very good at what he knows. That's why I prefer to deal with him for any issues I have with some application or to do peer review of my works. He loves his kid - his Scamp - his adorable puppy. We gossip for a long time every time we talk about life... Hehehe... He is a very funny guy and poses well for photographs. His kid is very cute and his house is very beautiful with all those greenery around.

(Q. Where's Reg's picture???
A. With his permission I would add his picture.)

When we met for the first time and started working, this was not the case at all. We had several misunderstandings. However, after a year things started changing. We want him in the team always. Hurray... we have him even now in our team. And he is a great asset to the team, to the organisation and to the people whose application we deal with.

All I remember about him, during my trip to Sydney, are:
1) His Green Tea (I came to know about Green tea from him. It was a new thing for me then)
2) His table calendar, where he had all those funny coats with the funny cartoons
3) His desk - properly organised, books kept in order.

At that time though I was not so well, because of the cold weather, and could not enjoy Sydney wholly.. Now I cherish those moments. I remember the lunch we had with team, had Sushi food; especially my experience with the 'Wasabi' sauce. Ah! it was an experience in a life time. That hot feeling that passed from my throat to my nose to my eyes and to my head and finally to the air. Woho... everyone wondered why am I crying and then they realised it was 'Wasabi' sauce that I took too much. Ah...

Also, his height is something that I would never forget. I guess he is more than 6 feet. I had never seen such height in India. And I remember I had to raise my face to see him and say "Hi, I am Gayatri". It was a nice experience with Helena and Reg around. The snacks that Helena used to share with us; it was so caring of her. For the first time I came to know about Kiwi fruit, she shared with us. It was fun with Helena and Reg.

One of the interesting facts that I remember is - he visited India in April 1983. His experience was very bad that time with India. And that year and that month I am born. Hehehe...

I would send him a gift on his birthday 3rd Oct. this year. His presence in the team and his help makes my life much easier to deal with certain applications and certain clients.

I am happy for having such a nice person as my friend. Thank you Reg for being a nice friend and a wonderful colleague.
(With regards - your kiddo friend GG)
