Break Dancers on the Road

Have you seen any break dance? Oh! Yes. You must have - In the movies/videos/albums/concerts. However, have you seen any break dance on the road? May be, if for entertainment purpose / for some money to survive, you may have seen some break dancers performing on the corner of a street.

I have seen some break dancers performing on the road too. They perform break dance, not on the lonely corners of the street, but on the heavily populated streets. They perform amongst the traffic. It would need you to concentrate on the public to figure out where are they. You can't casually run on the side of the street to notice them.

When needed, they perform the steps that Hrithik Roshan performs in some of his movies. Are there are actress who perform such break dance? I can't recollect any of them. So, I feel it's ok to say that may be they are inspired by him. Thanks Hrithik for those steps on behalf of those break dancers. Remember the hand movements from his début movie, Kahona Pyar Hai (कहोना प्यार है), where he moves his hands and arms in a wave like pattern. Oh! My brother loves that step and imitates whenever he listens to that song. Well, I feel these dancers usually perform in a hurry may be and thus, some time their movements don't form a beautiful pattern together. And thus, at time you would wonder what step was that! As per my observations, you notice them easily when they perform faster.

The catalyst of this type of dance is not only the humans but also the animals and machines. The zig zag pattern formed by the various sizes of cars, buses, cabs, auto rickshaws, bikes on the road is the first most important platform for the break dancers. And the dogs, cows/bulls and the buffaloes - they help in giving the best dance steps. Every time they see them they learn a new step. How they learn? Well... you too can learn that. And you would learn it yourself - since you have to avoid the touch of their head or horn or their tail. Otherwise you would have a tough time escaping from their anger at times or you have a tough time removing the stain from your cloth. They are really scared of eve teasers and every time they see them they prepare themselves for the break dance. As soon as they reach closer they start performing.

I think I gave you enough of clues by now. It's time to reveal the secret break dancers. They are the 'Wo(men)' of this fast paced society in its traffic and population. On the roads if you notice these women who walk down to their house or shops, or even when they are walking towards the bus stop, they perform all sorts of break dance steps to avoid a collision with the person at the front. The small passage way and so much population and so less time left to reach the destination. All these things urge them to do such dance. Ah! How can I forget the stupid and nonsense eve teasers who sometime deliberately come close and try to thump them? They have no other option but to twist a little to avoid the hit. Men may not suffer to great extent and may just feel irrititated. But for women, it sometime raises the feeling of insecurity in them.

As a woman, I feel disgusted when I face these situations and have to perform the break dance. Same is the feeling when I husband face these situations. I, as part of the secret break dancers, feel pity for all the women/men, especially of India. The machines, the animals are fine - at least they don't make you feel insecure. But the eve teasers in the form of humans! Sometime even guys are not left by them. Well... we have the power to slap when we feel the performing the dance is not really necessary. However, that too sometime makes life tough afterwards.

God! I wish all of them have a safe journey from and to their destinations.
